Australia- the movie

Finally, I watched the movie. One of the things I felt obliged to do before leaving Australia. It was a good entertainment with too many cliches and bad lines. Gut-wrenching bits were the references to stolen generation and white Australia policies. Nicole Kidman has some funny lines but I think she's been around so long, has been consumed so much by Australian media that I had the perception of her as a media celebrity trying to act.
It was, as if watching my sister acting.
Of course than you are being dragged away from her performance. She should not appear this much on around. She should remain in the silver-screen, exclusive to that domain.
Can this be a haunting diseases lurking for celebrities in the info-tainment era of the media ?
Like, how can I watch any Tom Cruise movie without remembering his Scientology stints ?
The excessive reproduction of an actor or actress's image on media must have some negative correlation with her/his ability to carry audiences away with the plot on the screen.

  1. This is what defines an actor or actress. If they can take you to a place where you forget about their off screen personas and publicity stunts and watch as if to be viewing the character for the first time. Celebrities that allow themselves to be caught up in scandals and place themselves in the lime - light tend to be those who fail at their job and become type cast based on audience preconseptions. Like any rule there are exceptions but do you see Daniel Day Lewis in the limelight or what about Sean Penn? these guys never let the media mold their character and they exceed brilliantley time and time again.

Regarding the film, i do not believe any cast could have made this 'spectacle' a great movie. The story line is another fancified rendition of the truth and what really represents Australia. A film based on such a country should depict a real history of the land no matter how good or bad that may be. Instead of focusing on what the 'demographic' needs to see, how to appeal to Americans and how not to affend anyone, why not tell the truth - surely theres more gratification in that, as an actor or director. Baz Luhrmann is a sell out and a closet case homosexual.
